How In-Home Occupational Therapy Works
We organise an initial consultation with all our prospective participants to learn more about you and the services you require, as well as what you hope to achieve through occupational therapy at home. Many sessions begin with an occupational therapy home assessment so we understand how you manage daily tasks in your own environment.
From there we develop an individualised occupational therapy plan to help you reach your goals and needs. This plan is devised through collaboration between you and our occupational therapists, as well as the relevant professionals, caregivers, and family members.

Occupational Therapy in Melbourne: What to Expect
An occupational therapist helps people take part in the everyday tasks that matter to them, such as showering, dressing, cooking, getting around the home, going to school or work, and staying safe as needs change. Our occupational therapy in Melbourne is mobile: the therapist comes to your home, so assessments and advice are based on your own bathroom, kitchen, steps and routines rather than a clinic room.

How it works
- You, a family member, support coordinator or health professional sends a referral through our online referral form.
- Our admin team confirms availability for your address, usually within one business day.
- An occupational therapist visits you at home to talk about your goals and see how daily tasks are going.
- The therapist agrees a plan with you, which may include therapy sessions, equipment trials, home changes or a written report for your funding body.
- Follow-up visits or telehealth sessions continue as your plan and funding allow.
Funding options
NDIS participants can use their plan funding for occupational therapy. Ergo Therapy Group is an independent occupational therapy provider, not the NDIA, so funding decisions are made by the NDIS (contact the NDIS on 1800 800 110). Older adults may access occupational therapy through Support at Home via their provider, and private referrals are welcome. A GP may also refer eligible people under a GP chronic condition management plan. Funding is never guaranteed, and we talk through costs before any work starts.
Where we visit in Melbourne
Our therapists visit homes in inner Melbourne, south-east Melbourne, eastern Melbourne, northern Melbourne and western Melbourne. Visits depend on your address and therapist availability, so tell us your suburb when you refer. If a home visit is not practical, telehealth occupational therapy may be an option.

Do you have a clinic, or do you only visit homes?
Our occupational therapists visit participants at home across Melbourne and Western Sydney. Telehealth sessions are available when they suit the goals of therapy.
Can I use my NDIS plan for occupational therapy?
Occupational therapy can be funded through an NDIS plan when it relates to the participant's goals. We work with self-managed, plan-managed and NDIA-managed participants, and we cannot guarantee what the NDIS will fund.
